Foreshadowing is a clue that is in the book early for example candy’s dog got shot but later on George shoots Lennie.

Escalation
E.g mouse-dog-woman

Escalation is when something small happens but gets bigger
later on eg when lennie kills a mouse then a dog then a women.

Establishes relationship between George + lennie
“We’re not like the other guys”
George and lennie are best friend and they look after each other the best they can.

Builds a shared dream
This important because George is building he’s dream but gives up on it when he kills lennie.
Establishes a setting of indifference (native,people)
